Anxiety counseling

What is Anxiety?

Your heart feels like it's beating out of your chest. You can't stop thinking about tomorrow, what you have to do, what might go wrong, what others will think of you.

You ruminate about what happened yesterday, what others said or did to you. And the thing is you can't seem to stop these thoughts. It's like no matter how hard you try they keep coming up and stronger than ever. It feels like holding a beach ball under water.

Here is how clients describe anxiety:

" As this tension that I feel in my shoulders, and then all of a sudden I find it really difficult to breathe."

"I'm at the store and I feel like everyone is looking at me, judging me, when my child is throwing a tantrum on the floor,  I just want to  disappear."

If you can relate to any of this, you are not alone!

Over 40 million adults in the U.S. (19.1%) have an anxiety disorder.

You may feel stuck in anxiety's grip, wondering if things will ever improve. But reaching out shows incredible strength. With the right support and anxiety treatment options, including anxiety counseling with a trained anxiety therapist many clients find significant relief from anxiety. Help is available and recovery is possible!

Anxiety is not your fault

What Causes Anxiety?

Anxiety can be caused by your environment, genetics, psychological or even medical conditions. Stressful life events, trauma, loss, major life changes, school stress, bullying, can all trigger anxiety. Untreated stress or burnout can make anxiety symptoms worse. Anxiety treatment options are available to help manage these triggers and symptions. Working with an anxiety therapist is key.

Anxiety can be caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain and can be genetic. You are more likely to have anxiety if you have family members who suffer from anxiety disorders.

Experiencing occasional anxiety is a normal part of everyday life. However, when you experience pervasive symptoms that won't go away and get in the way of your day-to-day life, it may be time to seek treatment.

Symptoms of Anxiety

  • Racing heartbeat and chest tightness, sometimes feeling like you're having a heart attack
  • Excessive worrying about everyday things that feels hard to control
  • Restlessness and difficulty sitting still
  • Tense muscles, especially in neck and shoulders
  • Trouble falling or staying asleep
  • Sweating more than usual
  • Feeling dizzy or lightheaded
  • Stomach problems like nausea or diarrhea
  • Hard time concentrating or mind going blank
  • Getting tired easily
  • Feeling irritable or on edge

If you experience any of the above symptoms most of the day, almost every day, for a prolonged period (2 weeks of more) it may be time to consider working with an anxiety therapist. Anxiety treatment options are available! Remember that reaching out is the first courageous step towards healing,

Anxiety Counseling Can Help!

Anxiety Treatment

Our natural reaction when we feel nervous, anxious or scared is to run, hide, or self-soothe. Short term relief such as binge eating, binge watching shows, skipping work or school only reinforces a cycle between anxiety and avoidance behaviors.

Anxiety treatment can help even if you are experiencing just some of the symptoms.  Anxiety counseling can increase overall levels of well-being and improves life satisfaction.

At Cinco Ranch Therapy we offer a variety of different methods to treat anxiety. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which is an evidence-based intervention proven effective in treating anxiety. We also offer Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). All of these approaches are tailored to meet your individual needs.

Cinco Ranch Therapy Approach to treating Anxiety

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Anxiety Treatment

What is CBT?

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)  works under the premise that our thoughts and behaviors affect our mood and emotions. CBT focuses on identifying distortions in thinking patterns as well as negative core beliefs.

An anxiety counselor will work with you on identifying the sources of your stress and triggers of anxiety. Whether you experience social anxiety, panic attacks, or specific phobias, therapy will help you develop skills to manage difficult situations and change unhelpful behaviors.

In therapy you will learn tools to better handle anxiety when it occurs. You will work with your anxiety therapist to have a concrete action plan when you are in a anxiety provoking situation.

  • In CBT we set clear goals, you will know where you are heading and how you will get there.
  • CBT techniques have been well tested in research studies.
  • CBT is structured, clients can see progress during treatment, get feedback, and can adjust approach.
  • CBT is all about moving you towards your goals, giving you a sense of progress.
  • CBT is focused on the present, you can start where you are, and practice the skills you learn.
